COMING HOME, CYPRUS STYLE

The celebrations surrounding the launch of DEDON’s “Coming Home” campaign, book and film, all by legendary American fashion photographer Bruce Weber, continued last week with an enchanted evening at the DEDON showroom in Limmasol on the glorious island of Cyprus. Packed with local notables, including some of the island’s most renowned architects and designers, not to mention journalists from Sigma TV and all of the leading magazines, the evening managed to capture the relaxed elegance and free-spirited, artistic ambience of the “Coming Home” campaign itself.

As they entered the showroom, guests were greeted by champagne and the sight of two young ballerinas reclining in DEDON’s ORBIT loungers and looking very much like the dancer in Weber’s shoot. At 8pm, the ballerinas performed a beautifully choreographed routine to the romantic strains of Pink Martini’s “Splendor in the Grass,” a song that coincides perfectly with the spirit of the campaign. After the dance, which was a big hit with the guests, Mr. Angelos Lazouras, DEDON's Cyprus importer, heartily welcomed everyone and eloquently discussed the campaign and book. He was followed by Mr. Andreas Terlas, editor of Living Etc. Magazine, DEDON's media partner for the event.

Following the men’s remarks, Weber’s “Coming Home” movie was screened, much to the pleasure of the crowd. Then cocktails in blue, orange and pink were served along with cakes identical to those which appeared in the campaign shoot. Meanwhile, the showroom itself was tastefully decorated with furniture and objects — an old bicycle, a bass guitar resting on a Slim Line bench, an old Vespa stacked with Seashell chairs, Panama chairs and a bird cage — that perfectly evoked Weber’s fantastic treehouse set. Given the beauty of the surroundings and the typically festive DEDON spirit of the evening, is it any surprise that guests didn’t leave until after 11:30?
