Stephen Burks’ THE OTHERS, an award-winning collection of ani- mated lanterns, began as an exploration into abstract figurative design. “I imagined a color- ful community of dreamers, full of personality, gazing back at the world with ambition, sophi- stication and pride,” Burks says. “They appe- ared to me almost like ambassadors or guides into our imagination.” On their own or stacked in totems, THE OTHERS feature similar but unique woven patterns that create a family resemblance. Optional hand-crafted acrylic eyes add a playful touch. Burks has combined the fun with function: The lanterns feature out- door-certified rechargeable LEDs that cast perfect ambient light.
