80 When conceiving the collection, GamFratesi drew inspiration from geometry and nature. The designers invoke the image of a birch forest, the tall, slender tree trunks creating a landscape that is rarefied yet defined. GamFratesi’s first foray in outdoor furniture, AIIR provided an opportunity for the cele- brated design duo to express their princip- les in a new context: “We aimed to design an outdoor chair that could transcend the barrier of the ‘window’ and move indoors as well,” they explain. “In this way, we could create a continuous landscape between outside and inside, reflecting the way that people live today.” AIIR is characterized by earthy color palette. Attention to detail: Enrico Fratesi and Stine Gam inspect a mock-up. The designers were inspired by a landscape of birch trees.
