During DCOTA Spring Market 2026, the DEDON showroom hosted an intimate and thoughtful design event titled “Icons of Rhythm: The Cadence of Craft.” Held on March 19, 2026, the gathering brought together a small group of invited designers and guests for a private unveiling followed by an open house.
The event unfolded in a relaxed and conversational setting, encouraging guests to slow down, connect, and explore the dialogue between art and design.
At the heart of the event was a collaboration between ceramic artist Manuel Colón and a curated group of local designers. Each designer selected a piece from DEDON’s collections that resonated with them personally. Using those selections as inspiration, Colón created a series of original ceramic sculptures that translated the furniture’s forms, materials, and emotional impact into clay.
The sculptures were unveiled one by one during the private presentation with each designer sharing the story behind their chosen piece and the qualities that inspired them.
The Designers and Their Inspirations
Sarah Zohar
MBRACE Lounge Chair
Zohar was drawn to the balance of materials and the welcoming character of the MBRACE Lounge Chair.
“My favorite piece is the MBRACE Lounge Chair. I love it for its ergonomic design and striking architectural presence, especially the beautiful mix of materials like teak wood and handwoven fibers. The color options are stunning, Baltic being a standout favorite of mine, as it perfectly captures the essence of South Florida living. The design truly lives up to its name; it feels like it’s embracing you.”
Susan Lin
ATOLO Lounge Chair
Lin selected the ATOLO Lounge Chair for its refined structure and the subtle tension between softness and strength within its design.
“This chair inspires me because it captures a quiet tension between strength and softness. At first glance, it feels grounded and solid—almost like a smooth, rounded stone. DEDON's woven exterior adds another layer of contrast. The repetition of the pattern creates rhythm, while the light filtering through the weave softens its visual weight. What inspires me most is how it proves that opposites can coexist: hard and soft, structured and organic, grounded and embracing.”
Erika Soza-Mejia
KIDA Lounge Chair
For Soza-Mejia, the KIDA Lounge Chair stood out for its layered composition of materials and texture.
“The KIDA lounge chair immediately resonated with me because of the way its materials are layered with such intention. The sculptural frame, hand-woven fibers, and soft upholstery echo the way we design at Concept 2 Design, where we create spaces through thoughtful composition, depth, and tactile harmony. The colorful textile back adds a playful, unexpected note of personality—the kind of detail that brings a space to life.”
Maggie Kottmann Braun
SATELLITE Tables
Braun highlighted the sculptural versatility of the SATELLITE tables, a longtime favorite in her design toolkit.
“I have been a long-time admirer of the SATELLITE tables. I love the sculptural approach of the design. They are always a great addition to any chairs to pair them with. They work with all of DEDON’s furniture, sofas, chairs and dining chairs.”
Translating Woven Design into Ceramic Form
For Colón, rhythm in design emerges through the relationship between textures and volumes: “In the world of sculptural ceramics, forms are not merely molded—they are woven. Through a meticulous dialogue of techniques, artists interlace volumes and textures in a process that mirrors the very soul of DEDON.”
Colón also details how he approached translating woven outdoor furniture into sculptural ceramics. Just as DEDON’s furniture is defined by its meticulous weave, Colón built his sculptures through layered ceramic techniques, particularly the coiling method, which involves stacking rope-like strands of clay to create organic forms. This method allowed him to echo the rhythm and movement found in woven fibers while also exploring the depth and concavity of vessel-like shapes.
Each sculpture was finished with natural glazes designed to oxidize and evolve over time outdoors, reinforcing the connection between the artwork and DEDON’s focus on outdoor living.
A Conversation That Continues
One of the most memorable moments came at the end of the unveiling when Colón invited each designer to keep the sculpture inspired by their chosen piece, transforming the collaboration into the beginning of ongoing creative relationships.
This event demonstrated how craftsmanship and material exploration can intersect across disciplines, revealing new perspectives on the objects that shape the spaces we design.
