The Art of the Pairing: Complementary DEDON Collections

The art of outdoor design often begins with an unexpected pairing. When distinctive pieces come together, they can create a setting that feels expressive and entirely its own.

DEDON’s collections invite this kind of creative freedom. With more than 250 fibers in our portfolio, we offer an extensive range of colors and patterns to explore. While many colors appear across multiple collections, the weaves and textures are often developed specifically for each piece, reflecting the unique vision of its designer.

This thoughtful approach makes it easy to mix and match designs in a cohesive and impactful way. A sculptural table or chair can add a distinctive focal point to a modular sofa, and a bold color can bring energy to an otherwise neutral palette.

These three iconic pairings bring this philosophy to life and reveal how distinct DEDON designs come together to create beautiful outdoor settings.

MU and PORCINI

DEDON MU and PORCINI Outdoor Lounge Collections

With its understated design and modular construction, MU by Toan Nguyen offers a clean foundation for outdoor lounge spaces. The collection focuses on practical essentials, emphasizing comfort and flexibility through its versatile configurations. MU's restrained palette gives more expressive pieces room to stand out, which makes it an ideal counterpart to PORCINI by Lorenza Bozzoli.

PORCINI's mushroom-inspired forms give the collection an immediately recognizable character. Its sculptural woven bases are paired with smooth tabletops in various finishes, while multiple heights and sizes encourage the tables to be arranged individually or as clusters. The collection is available in color combinations ranging from muted, layered tones to deeper greens and browns. For a more concentrated use of color, you can use a bold PORCINI colorway as a deliberate accent against the neutral tones of MU.

The contrast between the forms of MU and PORCINI is what makes the pairing especially compelling. MU's clean, modular shape establishes a linear visual plane, while PORCINI introduces rounded, organic forms that interrupt that linearity. Rather than competing, the two create a unified dialogue between contrasting forms.

BELLMONDE and SEASHELL NUO

DEDON BELLMONDE and SEASHELL NUO Outdoor Dining Collections

The pairing of BELLMONDE by Henrik Pedersen and SEASHELL NUO by Jean-Marie Massaud demonstrates how different materials and forms can create an expressive yet cohesive outdoor dining setting.

At the center, the BELLMONDE dining table brings a sense of structure through its elegant and contemporary design. Its streamlined silhouette creates the perfect starting point for an outdoor dining area.

Around it, SEASHELL NUO introduces a different design language. Inspired by the natural form of a seashell, its enveloping curves and rounded silhouette soften the lines of the table, creating an intentional contrast.

The visual appeal of the pairing is further enhanced by the difference in materials. BELLMONDE combines teak and aluminum to create a strong, defined presence, while the woven form of SEASHELL NUO introduces texture, movement, and softness. Together, the two collections bring a fresh perspective to outdoor dining, balancing contemporary refinement with an organic, relaxed feel.

MBARQ and MBRACE ALU

DEDON MBARQ and MBRACE Outdoor Lounge Collections

The pairing of MBARQ and MBRACE ALU, both designed by Sebastian Herkner, offers a different approach to complementary design. Here, the connection comes through a shared detail: both collections feature the same distinctive fiber weave patterns, creating a visual thread between the two designs. Yet their shapes offer two individual design approaches.

MBARQ makes a statement with its generous proportions and rectangular forms. Inspired by the traditional alcove, its expansive silhouette creates a strong sense of presence in outdoor living spaces.

MBRACE ALU takes a more sculptural and enveloping approach. Its lounge chairs feature rounded profiles paired with large, plush cushions that invite relaxation.

This difference in shape creates an interplay between the structured presence of a modular sofa and the more individual, organic character of a lounge chair. Color can further emphasize this relationship, whether through coordinating fiber tones or a more unexpected colorful combination.

The contrasting silhouettes allow each collection to make its own statement while still working seamlessly together through Herkner’s unique woven design.

Iconic Combinations, Individual Statements

An impactful outdoor setting is shaped by the balance of distinctive pieces. When thoughtfully selected, individual designs can capture attention while giving the overall space a sense of unity.

DEDON collections give designers the freedom to explore different combinations of form, color, texture, and proportion. The objective is not to make every element blend together, but to give each piece a reason to be noticed. This approach to outdoor furniture goes beyond simply matching collections and celebrates the impact of bold design statements.
